Where do your yarns come from?

The SPYC yarn bases are primarily milled in Peru, and the superwash merino fiber is ethically sourced out of South America, specifically Argentina and Uruguay, from farms of varying sizes, all of which follow mulesing-free practices.

Do your yarns have dye lots?

All of our yarns are dyed by hand in small batches, which means we do not use high-yield commercial equipment to get large quantities of a single standardized dye lot. The magic of our yarn is that it's unique and handmade, and while we do our best to remain consistent across batches, there may be variations. We always recommend alternating skeins with any hand-dyed yarn for a project that uses more than one skein of the same colorway. We do our best to make sure all your skeins match when we send out your order, and by purchasing enough yarn to begin with, you will be much happier with your end result.

How should I take care of my yarn?

For all yarn bases, it is recommended to hand wash your project in cool water with some gentle wool wash, and then lay flat on a towel or blocking mat to dry. Washing and drying by machine may have undesired results, but this can be tested with a small swatch! Even though the label may say superwash or washable, your final fabric may pill or snag during the machine washing and drying process. It’s also worth noting that colorways vary across yarn bases as fibers respond to dyes differently. Yarn is thoroughly rinsed and set after the dyeing process, but it is normal for hand-dyed yarn, especially deeply saturated colors (and reds!), to leave a little color in the first couple of washes.

Do your product photos show accurate yarn colors?

The best effort is made to portray colors and fibers accurately in the stock product photographs. The appearance of yarn colors can change depending on the monitor or screen, and color can vary slightly between dyelots. Please take this into account while shopping. If you are concerned or looking for a very specific color shade, you can sign up for our virtual shopping service!
